Real-Time UAF Eulerian Parallel Polar Ionosphere Model


If your brouser supports JavaScript v.1.1 or better, you can review the latest ionospheric developements in the animated mode, covering up to the last nine hours. The JavaScript-based animator supports playback both in forward and in reverse direction with variable speed, frame by frame advance, and the pause mode. Minimally, it would require a transfer of about 0.5 MB of data and about 16 MB of free memory on your workstation to load the animation and to play it from the memory cache. If your workstation is on a fast line, you may want to animate the extended sequences without skipping the frames. It requires a transfer of up to 3 MB of date (up to 8 MB for 24 hours sequence) and correspondingly larger amount of free RAM. Please refer to the following list of available animated sequences and the required resources for their downloading and playback. Also, a procedure of the animation refreshing to the current time is described below.


Requires a transfer of about 0.5 MB of data and 16 MB of free RAM:
  • Full ionospheric map and the corresponding geophysical information, covers 3 last hours of simulations storing all corresponding time steps (36).
  • Full ionospheric map and the corresponding geophysical information, covers 9 last hours of simulations storing every third of the simulated maps, effectively the time step of this animation is 15 minutes.
  • Magnified ionospheric map, 9 last hours of simulations storing every third of he simulated maps, effectively the time step of this animation is 15 minutes.


Requires a transfer of about 2-3 MB of data and 32 MB of free RAM:

  • Full ionospheric map and the corresponding geophysical information, covers 9 last hours of simulations with all time steps stored (108 time steps of 5 min each).
  • Magnified ionospheric map, covers 9 last hours of simulations with all time steps stored (108 time steps of 5 min each).


Requires a transfer of about 7-8 MB of data and 64 MB of free RAM:

  • Full ionospheric map and the corresponding geophysical information, covers last 24 hours of simulations with all time steps stored (289 time steps of 5 min each).
  • Magnified ionospheric map, covers last 24 hours of simulations with all time steps stored (289 time steps of 5 min each).

IMPORTANT: REFRESHING THE ANIMATION

The UAF EPPIM Web site uses the same filenames for updated ionospheric images. This arrangement protects the site from overloading, but sometimes results in certain inconveniences. Particularly, rather then a straightforward RELOAD operation to refresh the animation content this setting requires explicit removal of the expired images from the memory and the disk cache of some brousers.

To refresh the animation to the current time, please clear the memory and disk cache of your brouser first and only then reload the animated sequence. If you use Netscape, it will first require leaving the animated display page by clicking on BACK button, than clearing the caches in EDIT->Preferences->Advanced->Cache... and only then returning to animation either by clicking on FORWARD button or on the animation link directly.
